London Painters Meetup, February 2014

Had a great afternoon of painting with fellow hobbyists yesterday at the Platoon Britannica painters meetup.

It’s been almost a full year since our last meetup so we were long overdue a painting day and we had a pretty decent turnout of eight painters – probably the most so far.

Dark Sphere were kind enough to host us again and this was the first time we got to paint in their new larger venue down in Lambeth North. I like the venue, which has turned into more of a gaming centre akin the the Tabletop Nation venue just North of London. Lighting wasn’t bright enough to paint unassisted but most painters had brought a travel painting lamp so that wasn’t a problem. There was a bit of a buzz about the store as there was a small card tournament happening behind us, but that wasn’t too distracting.

It was good to see some new faces and hopefully we can build a bit more of a painters community here in the big smoke – we’ve already got plans for a followup event at the end of March. Watch this space for details as I get confirmation from the venue.

I decided to make a start on another Infinity miniature – the Aleph Myrmidon with Spitfire who had proved so effective in my first Campaign Paradiso game recently.

I made pretty good progress on the day and got most of his lower half completed. Having perfected the formula for those iridescent purple-yellow armour plates meant that I could get cracking and paint pretty quickly.

Happy with how he’s coming along.

  1. It was good to be there, even if we got there quite late. I decided to skip on bringing a lamp as doing a production line of base coating on tabletop quality can cope without it, and I was going to Reading that evening for some wargaming today.

I’m definitely looking forward to the next one. Hopefully I’ll have the production line stuff under control so I can paint something prettier…

    • Sorry, only just noticed this comment needed approval, despite you being the responsible one!

Look forward to seeing you at the next meetup. One mini, that’s all you’re allowed đŸ˜‰
