Saladin, Master Strategost of Haqqislam
Latest in my series of Infinity Haqqislam miniatures is Saladin, apparently one of the best lieutenants in the game.
That title’s not a typo by the way, he actually has an in-game ability called Strategos. Mrs Von D will inevitably pick that one up when she reads this post – she’s a great proof-reader as her English is much better than mine, although she is often bemused by this geeky toy soldier stuff!
Anyway, here he is:
Painting-wise I’m pleased with the colour scheme applied to him and I think the face and NMM sword has come out nicely. I’m not entirely happy about the pattern on the back of his tunic/kilt thing. It’s a bit on the messy side but I’ve decided to leave it as I have already spent a bit too much time on him.
Saladin is an interesting character fluff-wise in the Infinity universe.
The Human Sphere, which encompasses all the human factions such as Panoceania, Yu Jing and Haqqislam, are watched over by an Artificial Intelligence called Aleph (also a playable faction in game). On the surface, Aleph appears to be benevolent and it has discovered a way to resurrect or re-create legendary military characters, uploading their personalities into host bodies. So the game features future versions of personalities such as Joan of Arc, William Wallace, Achilles and Miyamoto Musashi.
I’m fascinated by the whole transhumanism thing – a key concept in Infinity – so this is a great little bit of fluff for the game.
In the case of Saladin, the Haqqislam leaders are distrustful of the Aleph-recreated Saladin, despite his faultless performance as a leader and liaison, and keep Hassassin close at all times for when he shows inevitable signs of betrayal.
